Our vision is to recognize and legitimize blogging as a viable business opportunity, career, and lifestyle. ~Drew DuBoff
I created this statement because I think it accurately portrays what I think is thought of the blogging community, its legitimacy, and its seriousness.
Also, what I want to change about those inaccurate perceptions.
Let’s break this statement down to fully understand it…
“To Recognize and Legitimize Blogging”
Many people I come across do not:
- Read blogs
- Know what blogging is
- Understand that blogging is no longer putting your thoughts in an online diary
- Realize that you can make a full-time living blogging
- View blogging as a legitimate business or even a side hustle
The simple truth is that blogging is like the black sheep in the business world.
Most companies use a blog as an extension of their brand, but few choose to use it as the vehicle behind their monetization and success.
However, that’s how bloggers use it, almost exclusively.
Part of our vision is to bring awareness to this and encourage business leaders, thought leaders, and everyday people to recognize and legitimize blogging.
“…As a Viable Business Opportunity, Career, and Lifestyle”
This breaks down how we plan on recognizing and legitimizing blogging as a viable:
- Business opportunity
- Career
- Lifestyle
Blogs originally weren’t started for business purposes. They were an extension of someone’s thoughts, like an online diary.
But, that has since changed in recent years and now, some people start blogging with the idea to make money, although most start to share advice to help others first.
Nonetheless, blogging as a business opportunity doesn’t tend to be taken seriously as other business opportunities.
We’d like to change that.
We’d also like to change how it is reasonable and even responsible to quit a 9-5 job to pursue blogging full-time as a job. Blogging can easily eclipse a 9-5 job and we’d like to put that at the forefront.
You can be a working parent at home and blog, while still having the intrinsic reward and satisfaction of knowing you’re providing for your family.
Finally, we want to address the lifestyle.
Bloggers may have lifestyles different than other people.
I, for one, tend to do my meetings in pajamas. Others take extended vacations and travel across the globe. Others systemize themselves out of the everyday roles and work very few hours.
However bloggers want to live shouldn’t affect how we judge or perceive them or their business acumen, potential, skills, and/or talents.
