Seriously, why do soooooo many bloggers track their progress with spreadsheets?
Not that I’m this newfangled teenager or anything, but I think spreadsheets aren’t constructive.
They don’t tell you how to get to the next stage. They don’t tell you how to make progress. And, they don’t even tell you if you should be experiencing the progress you are (or lack thereof).
That’s why I teach people to track your blogging progress with stages instead of spreadsheets.

Tracking Your Blogging Progress With Stages Instead of Spreadsheets
There are three main systems for tracking your blogging progress:
- Poop to profits system
- Business life cycle system
- Business success system
Let’s explore these briefly!
Poop to Profits System
I love my clients because they produce AMAZING YouTube videos.
So, of course, they have a video on the phases of blogging success!
What they nickname “Poop to Profits” is broken up into:
- Poop phase
- Teenage girl phase
- Rocketship phase
- Gradual growth and plateau phase
I’d try and explain each stage to you, but their video is really enjoyable, so take a few minutes and watch it.
Business Life Cycle System
The business life cycle system shows you your blogging progress by which part of the cycle you’re currently in.
Here are the stages:
- Development and Launch
- Growth and Expansion
- Shake-Out
- Maturity and Reinvention
- Decline
Here’s a handy little graphic that summarizes that.
The good news is that most businesses spend their time in the growth and expansion phase.
That’s the fun part of running your own business!
I created a guide that goes over the stages of the business life cycle if you want to learn about this concept more.
Business Success System
To make sure that you stay in the growth and expansion phase from before, you should know the formula behind blogging success (and how to make money with your business, in general).
This system is broken into the following stages:
- Brainstorming
- Assessment
- Planning
- Development
- Testing
- Launch
Here’s a handy little graphic for you to help visualize this.
It differs from the last one in that this one doesn’t focus on how much money you’re making, but rather the process you use to make money.
You can use this system to evaluate your progress for:
- Affiliate marketing
- Digital product creation
- Sponsored posts
However you use the system, make sure you don’t stop blogging.
These systems help you move forward.
Conclusion
In this article, we talked about the different kind of systems you can use to track your blogging progress.
In case you forgot them, they are:
- Poop to profits system
- Business life cycle system
- Business success system
I hope you start tracking your progress with something more meaningful than numbers on a spreadsheet.
Use these systems to plot your course for success!
