Scaling a blogging business for growth is a struggle for most online entrepreneurs.
Are you one of them?
With fierce competition and a lot of commitments, many people fail even before they start. But, you won’t have to be among them if you follow these three principles for guiding your online business’ growth:
- Reach for goals
- Never stop
- Destress
Many bloggers that I talk with have the most amazing ideas and stories, but if you aren’t aware of these concepts, it may all be in vain.
Let’s explore these concepts a little more!
1. Reach for Goals
If you’re in business, you have to have goals.
Your business goals help you focus your attention and energy.
They will guide your direction toward achieving a desirable outcome with your business. Your business goals will become a source of motivation.
You should, therefore, set your goals high so that even if you fall short, you’ll still see some growth. Once you manage to achieve any of your goals, take the opportunity to celebrate your achievements, and get motivated.
I love celebrating the small wins that I get because they propel me to larger ones.
Here’s one I shared recently with my Facebook group:
This win turned out to be an affiliate commission of $749.75 from the Bookkeeper Launch program by Ben Robinson.
Not too shabby to find after clearing out 350 emails 🙂
In fact, when I was in Leah Gervais’ Scale Your Side Hustle program in the fall of 2018, I said that I wanted to make just $25k for the year, but Leah pushed me more. We eventually set my goal for $30k to $50k and in 2019, I fell squarely within that goal at over $40k.
Here’s a screenshot from my Quickbooks account where you can see my revenue and expenses for the year.
Note that with my goal, it was purely for top-line revenue, not what I made after expenses. I’m always completely transparent about financials. Also, note that this statistic has not been finalized for the year yet by my CFO, so some statistics may change with my IRS filing.
2. Never Stop
If you want to build your business, you need to have true grit and perseverance.
Nothing is easy, and every business encounters several setbacks. There was even a time when I stopped blogging. You can only prove your determination by not giving up along the way.
You should always strive to continually improve. Don’t forget to keep chasing after your dreams, regardless of how far they seem to be.
When I graduated from college, I did NOT think I would be a full-time online business owner, but it was what I wanted, so I worked hard to get there and now it’s my life.
You’re just a few steps away from where you want to be and you can tackle all the obstacles.
You can get there as long as you keep moving forward.
Take every step for the sake of your business, and always bounce back with more energy whenever you fall.
3. Destress
You cannot push your business forward if your mind is filled up with endless stress. Stress is a normal part of running a business, but you should never let it take the better part of you.
You probably have a lot of things running on your mind, so many errands to run, and everything else in your business needs your attention. The best way to escape stress is to stay healthy, both physically and emotionally.
Maintain a good fitness schedule, get enough sleep, and maintain a healthy diet. You should always be healthy, happy, and motivated. You can’t grow your business when you’re bitter, exhausted, and irritable.
Always make sure you take care of yourself as you take care of your business.
I’ll admit that this is NOT my greatest strength when it comes to running my business.
But, here’s what I’ve found to help:
- Getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night
- Doing what’s on my to-do list
- Honoring commitments to myself
- Eating healthier food
I’ll also note that this year, I wanted to invest in my personal health, so I went to Natalie Bacon because she’s the mindset queen (at least, in my entrepreneurial circle).
You should do it, too!
Conclusion
The success of your business is your success as well.
Imagine how it would feel to run a successful (by your terms) business that you started from scratch.
How hard are you willing to work to get there?
It all depends on these three principles:
- Reach for goals
- Never stop
- Destress
